Apitherapy, a form of alternative medicine, uses products from honeybees, such as royal jelly, propolis, honey and bee venom that is traditionally applied by provoking a live bee to sting certain regions of the human body. A honeybee cannot extract its barbed sting from human skin, and the sting is therefore ripped out of their abdomen and the bee dies shortly afterwards. Apitherapy is used for a variety of ailments, though their efficiency has yet to be confirmed by medical evidence. In a 2016 New York Times article, the actress Gwyneth Paltrow revealed that she uses bee stings as a beauty treatment. This song lyric takes the vantage point of a bee sacrificed for this purpose.
